Grappling with mental health challenges in Congo

Mental health needs run high in the Congo, as displaced people in North Kivu witness violence and commonly suffer from post-traumatic stress as a result. While the need for mental health treatment is rising, the quality of service faces challenges with properly treating patients due to negative stigma surrounding mental illness, the use of traditional healers as opposed to medical doctors, lack of training, and limited resources.
