Canada indigenous community bemoans attempted suicides

Suicide and self-inflicted injuries are the leading cause of death amongst the youth and adults of Attawapiskta, a First Nations indigenous community in Ontario, Canada. Since September 2015, the community witnessed 86 suicide attempts related to widespread poverty, high unemployment, systematic racism, and more. Having been declared a state of emergency, leaders of the Assembly of First Nations called for a national strategy to address high suicide rates and mental health.
