A new Canadian study demonstrates that Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM), which includes all practices or products prescribed outside of Western medicine, is commonly used in the treatment of children with chronic conditions. In the study, 900 parents of children treated at two hospitals were surveyed about their use of CAM; almost half reported their child had used an alternative therapy as a companion to conventional medicine. Popular CAM treatments included vitamin and/or mineral regimens, homeopathic remedies, herbal treatments, faith healing, massage, chiropractic manipulation, and aromatherapy.
