Aging Population is Growing in Diversity

The number of elders of color is growing, but this community is often marginalized and invisible. Compounded by language barriers, many older people of color may have health beliefs that are unique to their cultures and may not adapt to the values of mainstream society. Effective communication and cultural competency between the professionals and the seniors is therefore needed for an accurate assessment of the issues at hand so the appropriate services can be offered to the seniors.
