Traditional Mayan healing treatment performed by an H’men (doctor-priest). Usually performed with an egg or a blessed or sacred object, which is repeatedly swept over the body of the ailing while saying prayers. After the sweeping with an egg, it is broken to reveal the affliction or affected organ. In some instances, after sweeping, the illness is “transferred” to an animal, particularly a chicken, which is then slaughtered/sacrificed to do away with the illness.
